Environment is the sum of all the surroundings which include living organisms such as human beings, animals etc and non living things too which gives conditions for development and growth.
Environmental concerns are the issues which are being faced by the people in many forms which are very harmful to the environment and to the living organisms. We should protect the environment by spreading awareness to the people in one or the other medium so that they can work on the same. The government is also doing many things to protect the environment such as restriction on dumping of garbage in the open, planting of plants on the empty patch of land so as to make that land fertile and making the area look green and full of blossoms. The government had also come up with many laws regarding to environment which are being followed very strictly in many areas of the world.
The different environmental concerns are:
Soil and land pollution
Greenhouse gases emission
-200025401320Deforestation: It is basically cutting of trees and reducing the fresh air sources and converting those areas into homes and other things.

Water pollution: It is the pollution which is mainly caused due to draining out the industrial waste into the water bodies, washing clothes, throwing garlands into the rivers etc.

Soil and land pollution: It is the pollution which is related to the land and it is mainly caused by throwing garbage, animal waste, industrial waste etc.
Greenhouse gas emissions: It is the emissions of the harmful gases through the industries and they harm the living organisms.
TECHNIQUES ; METHODS USED BY HOTEL TO MAINTAIN ENVIROMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
The techniques and methods which are being taken by the hotel to maintain environmental sustainability are as follows:
Construction of toilets:
Under the ITC’s Health & Sanitation Programme it has made around 35,000 low cost toilets for the rural houses which are situated in the of its manufacturing units.
They have also started to spread awareness with the collaboration of the government about the sanitation to the people of different rural areas so that they use toilets.
Energy conservation and use of renewable resources:
As per the ITC Maurya is concerned they use 50-60% of the resources which can be reused after certain treatments.
They are reducing the use of fossil fuels and slowly or we can say around 45-50% shifted to the use of biomass, wind and solar.
They are planning to meet the use of renewable resources to 90% till 2020.

ITC Maurya is focusing on this issue very seriously as water scarcity is the main cause these days in many parts of India.
They are using the principle of integrated water management which includes water conservation and water harvesting.
They are adopting the new technologies for water conservation which are:
Reduce fresh water intake
Reuse of used water for gardening, cleaning the dishes etc
Using aerators in the taps

Greenhouse gases and carbon emissions:
ITC is the first brand and the founder brand that brought the concept of LEED to India
LEED stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” which is given by US Green Building Council.
They are reducing the green house gas emission every year by 10% from the last 5-6 years with the increase in the financial growth.
And they are also undertaking green practices in all of their old and new properties.

ITC Maurya is reducing specific waste generation through constant monitoring and improvement of efficiencies in material utilization.
They are also prevented waste from becoming a landfill and reduce the problems related to that such as soil and groundwater contamination and green house gases emissions.
They are using post consumer packing waste paper as raw material.

FINDINDS & RECOMMENDATIONS
ITC Maurya is following all the measures to protect the environment from the main issues which are nowadays popping in the industry.
It is the hotel under that brand or that chain of hotels which was the first one to bring the “LEED” certification to India.
They are improving their way of sustainability from year to year by updating their methods with the latest methods so that they do not left behind.
It is the hotel in that particular area which promotes the CSR initiatives to the society in a very easy and straight forward method so that they do not have any problem in future.
They have large opportunities for the weaker section women of the rural areas.
I want to conclude my project with saying that ITC Maurya is doing well toward environment and they are also making a standard for other hotels so that they can work in that way to protect the environment.
They have made different programmes for different tasks which make them to do the task in a simplified way and compare the result with the result of the previous task cycle so as to find the difference and make the team motivated to do more and gain 100% in the stipulated deadline.
The management of ITC Maurya has always focused on the environmental issues as they train their existing and the new staff with the programmes and how are they working so that they also get to know the ways we can protect and eradicate the issues which are being faced today by the hospitality and tourism industry.
