All through the movie The Shawshank redemption, the different classes are clear between the characters. The bourgeoisie is represented by warden Norton and the prison guards. The proletariat are portrayed as the inmates. The Shawshank Redemption portrays a variety of values, some of which diverge yet are still led by one another. One of the values the movies glorifies is redemption. Andy Dufresne is a prisoner who is innocent he wants to redeem himself in a sense where redemption means to be set free but he takes revenge in the process of doing so. This is shown when Andy escapes and reveals the scandals in the prison causing the Warden -who used to exploit him, kill himself. This can be seen as a revenge from Andy to the warden, in doing so Andy goes against capitalism. Even though The Shawshank Redemption is meant to champion “redemption” it portrays revenge towards the end. In addition, it is noticed how the warden is supposed to redeem the prisoner making them fit for society but he actually uses them for his own benefit. For instance, he does not let Andy leave or request another trial when Andy gives proof he did not murder his wife. This led Andy to get revenge on the warden because Andy did not need to redeem himself, he did not do anything wrong. Thus, displaying the warden as a bourgeoisie but Andy  Throughout the movie it is observed how Andy can fall into both social classes and at times he does not fall under any. However, a conclusion can be reached by realizing that Dufresne is blurring the lines between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. For instance, when Andy was about to be thrown of the roof but saves himself by giving the guard a financial advice. This show how Andy who is clearly a proletariat uses his voice as a powerful tool to save himself. This brings light to his past and how he was a bourgeoisie displaying that Andy still has some bourgeois characteristics making him powerful even in the most powerless situations. Thus portraying how Dufresne blurs the line between the bourgeois and the proletarians.
