Lewin’s Change Management Theory
Lewin’s change management theory is a three-stage change model with the first stage as unfreezing, which is communicating on the need for change, the reason, and its benefit to the organization (Butts & Rich, 2018). This is done to prepare the organization mentally and psychologically and anticipate change. The second stage is the change, which involves incorporating the new changes into the organization. In this stage, new ways and methods of doing activities are integrated into the organization (Butts & Rich, 2018). This process is the most crucial and the organization should support its members to enable successful integration of the changes. The last stage of the Lewin’s change model is refreezing which involves the organization fully integrating the new changes into its system where they become the normal activities of the organization (Butts ; Rich, 2018).
The Lewin’s change model can be applied in the healthcare sector in the adopting of new technology. With the rapid advancement in technology, the Lewin’s change model is the best to be used since it is easy to use and does not involve many processes (Hayes, 2014). Since these changes can cause fear and anxiety in nurses due to the fear of failure, Lewin’s change model allows an organization to support its members in the adoption and integration of the changes into the system (Hayes, 2014). Members are also informed about the changes early in advance and this prepares the healthcare practitioners in readiness for the new changes. The certified registered nurse anesthetics can use the Lewin’s change management theory in integrating new technology for their diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (Hayes, 2014).
The first stage will involve identifying the processes that require changes for better performance and communication done to all certified registered nurse anesthetics and other stakeholder who will be involved in the process (Hayes, 2014). Discussions with all involved stakeholders can take place and suggestions on how to implement the changes can be noted. The next stage is the change process where the new technology is incorporated into the healthcare facility. New technology is implemented and support services provided (Hayes, 2014). This may involve training on the usage of the new technology by the certified registered nurse anesthetics. The last process is the refreezing stage where continued support is provided to the certified registered nurse anesthetics and other stakeholders until everyone is comfortable with the new change, every process is fully functional, and any rising challenges adequately addressed (Hayes, 2014).
