Art of realism or making very accurate images

Art of the Renaissance is truly unique in the media and expression of ideas. The Renaissance was a period of advancing in science, literature and of course art. Meanwhile the arts also reflected many ideologies in the churches with their art styles. Renaissance art has deep roots in modern day art today.Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, no not the ninja turtles, were all famous artist involved in this expanding age of knowledge and art. Much of their art was even used in church cathedrals to draw attention to aspects of religion at the time. Leonardo da vinci specifically painted a religious image of Jesus in the last supper. Michelangelo is another painter involved in painting for a church in which his project was the Sistine chapel. His work reflected the passages of the old testament in Genesis. Some of these artist wouldn’t have been popular without commissions from churches. But, each artist was known for there vast skills in there art of realism or making very accurate images of humans and nature. There medias would range from oils paints to marble sculptures weigh tons. Donatello was a Renaissance artist famous for his handy work in sculptures. His work with a chisel and block of granite or marble, even bronze, was no match for this skillful artist. He was a ¨master of early Renaissance sculpture¨(History). He could create life like sculptures of people which may have advanced the art of hyper realism. Many of his  Bronze sculptures by Donatello looked extremely real as if it was an actually living person. His best example is his statue of David, ¨The figure follows a Gothic style, popular at the time, with long graceful lines and an expressionless face¨(Biography). Today artist try to capture this realistic art from in hyper realism art or super realism. Raphael was a young artist who learned from Michelangelo and Leonardo. His most famous work is, The School of Athens, painted in the Vatican.  His art style was a blend of these two masters of the Renaissance. Architecture was another skill of Raphael. Julius II had Raphael help in the construction of the new basilica of St. Peters in Vatican City.  He reused greek ideas in architecture and the dome was replicated again in the construction of the Basilica. He created architectural ideas from past greek art and incorporated the tall pillars and white marble into his masterpieces. Raphael developed the Renaissance architecture of the Renaissance period.Michelangelo and Leonardo, the Renaissance masters, were the defined masters of painting. Their patrons of the church applaud there work and demanded they decorate their churches. The Sistine Chapel is a prime example. Pope Julius II commissioned the work and soon the ceiling was decorated in old testament stories. Leonardo’s last supper was a religious painting as well captivating the final moments of christ. Both artist defined the art of realism and deeping meanings of events in picture instead of using words. These artist define the term ¨Renaissance Art¨ .¨The Catholic church was a major patron of Renaissance art¨ (History). Most art of the Renaissance was paid for by popes for cathedrals and monasteries. Although the Medici family was famous for purchasing fine art, the church was a major force that helped the Renaissance period thrive (History). Pope Leo X was a patron that called upon Leonardo and even Michelangelo advancing their fame in Rome and much of Europe. Also, Pope Julius II sponsored many projects for the church. He called upon Donatello and Raphael to complete the new Basilica of St. Peter. Without the sponsorship of the church may Renaissance artist wouldn’t have been recognized for their talent. The Renaissance truly was an age of advancement in art. It has influenced the modern world of art. Paintings and architecture of the time redefined the possibilities of medias and ideas. Hyper realism, greek style construction, and even the romanticism arts have branched off from these past artistic styles. Today many artist use Renaissance art to reference or to gain inspiration in projects. Churches in Vatican city still reflect the past of the Renaissance as well as past ideaologeies.
