Chapter 1
Background and Rationale of the study
The internet café called “KM Internet Café” has two branches. The current setups of their internet cafés were separated. One way to connect the two internet cafés was to connect the switch of each internet café using a copper crossover cable. A copper crossover cable is a Networking cable that connects two computers or network devices directly to one another (ComputerHope, 2014). With the help of the said cable, the two internet café can be linked together. The copper crossover cable was connected to the two switches with matching necessary configurations for them to be connected. KM internet café in front of the Gaisano parking lot beside Capitol University first building was using a D-Link 16 ports switch and a D-Link 24 ports switch. The name of the router that they were using was the ZyXEL MyDSL router.

An internet café was one of the interesting businesses to put up in the market nowadays. It gives interest to people longing for internet access and entertainment that satisfies their needs. A key factor that can influence the possible customers to choose your internet café was the fast internet access that can give them a hassle free work or entertainment. Another was the population of users in an internet café. It was one of the greatest factors especially to gamers/players because it gives more entertainment in playing which they wanted the most. Plenty of PCs plus plenty of users equals the boosting of the business. Internet café will still reach its maximum capacity so the owner may decide to put up a branch of his/her business. To maintain the factors that his main internet café has, he gave a fast internet access and most especially the number of the population must enhance. To do this, the main and the branch internet café was interconnected or must still link with each other. For example, a player/user creates a room and serves as the host, the users/players on the main and the branch internet café will be capable of joining the created room.

KM internet café was owned by Lolita Tiu and Tristan Tiu. They have two internet café; the other one was beside the Capitol University first building, and the other was in front of the entrance/exit of the Gaisano parking lot. The PLDT/PhilCom was the company that provides their internet connection. There are 15 computers on the internet café beside the capitol university and 17 on the internet café in front of Gaisano parking lot. The media they were using was a straight through cable which has a star type topology. The distance between the two internet café is approximately 50 meters away from each other.

To calculate the distance the researcher must executes a manual procedure. Using a meter stick, the researcher must step by step count the number of times the meter stick was being put on the ground this was done to measure the distance of the other internet café.

Image 1Image 2
The image 1 and 2 were taken on the KM internet café besides the first building of Capitol University. This shows that the researcher manually calculated the distance from the two internet café.

Image 3Image 4
The image 3 and 4 were taken on the KM internet café in front of the parking lot of Gaisano. This shows that the researcher manually calculated the distance from the two internet café.

Based on the manual calculation of the researcher, as a result of her patience in counting the distance, she has come up with the 53 meters distance of the two internet café.

According to CEPALCO there will be a charge of 100php per month to an individual or organization that is connected to a post that is owned by them.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The main internet café of KM and its branch were not connected with each other. They were not connected in a way that there was no link connecting the main and the branch directly. For example, a user was creating a game and serves as the host on the game called Warcraft, the users that were on the same branch with the host may join the created game, but the users on the other branch cannot join the specified/created game.

1.3 Objectives of the Study
The study aims to come up with a connectivity of internet cafés’ between the main branch and the sub branch that enables the player/gamers to hook up with each other like a LAN type of network. Specifically the study aims to:
To design the network ; two internet café using one ISP.

To develop the connectivity of the two internet café using crossover-cable.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the network being connected.

1.4 Significance of the Study
The Kytan ; Mia (KM) internet café benefited the proposal of mine because it was the subject of the study. It has two branches of internet café. Possibly they may have an increase of numbers of customers.

The university specifically, the Capitol University because it will be more known for its high standard level of teaching through the students conducting researches.

The future researchers that will be interested about this study may use my thesis as there reference. They may also enhance my study based on the context on it and they may find some additional functions for it.

The users/customers of the specified internet cafés will benefit the study because they will gain more players to associate with.
1.5 Scope and Limitations
The study was focused on connecting the two branches of internet café owned by Lolita Tiu and Tristan Tiu. Other internet cafés cannot enter with the KMs’ internet café. The study only covered the PCs, routers, line console, and switches that owned by KM internet café. The study will collect its needed information in the main and sub branch of KM Internet café. The specific data must be done within the client’s internet café only. The process of applying the connectivity of the internet cafes was focused and only be applied with the internet cafes owned by the owner of KM. It will only be used by the user and the owners may also use it. Configuring on the IP address of the PCs is included. UTP cable was used to connect the two internet café because of the availability. The testing was only done on 1 PC-to- 1 PC only.
1.6 Basic Concepts and Terminologies
Crossover Cable – A network cable that crosses the transmit and receive lines. It is used to connect hubs and switches together using standard MDI-X ports, which are themselves crossover ports. The crossover cable crosses the line first, after the MDI-X crosses the lines they are effectively back to a non-crossed condition (Davis, 2014).

Internet – According to Margaret Rouse (2008) the Internet, sometimes called simply “the Net,” is a worldwide system of computer networks – a network of networks in which users at any one computer can if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers). It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the ARPANet. The original aim was to create a network that would allow users of a research computer at one university to be able to “talk to” research computers at other universities. A side benefit of ARPANet’s design was that, because messages could be routed or rerouted in more than one direction, the network could continue to function even if parts of it were destroyed in the event of a military attack or other disaster. Today, the Internet is a public, cooperative, and self-sustaining facility accessible to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Physically, the Internet uses a portion of the total resources of the currently existing public telecommunication networks. Technically, what distinguishes the Internet is its use of a set of protocols called TCP/IP (for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). Two recent adaptations of Internet technology, the intranet and the extranet, also make use of the TCP/IP protocol.

Internet café- is a specific place where it’s main focus and source of revenue is the customers’ money. They are paying for the rental of a computer set for a limited time usage depending on the value of the amount given. Internet is one of its strength, without it, lapses of potential customers May vanished and worst completely abandoned by the customer. Abandonment of customers will result to closure of the business. It can be said that the customers’ money is the life-blood of an internet café.

The cheapest way to network two computers equipped with network interface cards is by using a $10 crossover ethernet cable such as Belkin’s. If you need to add ethernet cards, you can get them for around $20 a piece from companies like 3Com and Proxim. This setup will allow you to share files and printer and with Windows’ Internet Connection Sharing (for Windows 98 SE and up) installed on the host PC. You can also, share a dial-up Internet connection. When I tried it, the setup was easy, file sharing speed was quick, and the Web browsing speed nearly matched what I would have obtained if I had connected both systems directly to their own modems. The downside? Both PCs must be turned on, but you can’t share a broadband connection unless the host PC has an internal broadband modem or two ethernet cards. Nevertheless, if you are on a budget, you can get by with this setup (Stafford, 2002).

An Ethernet switch is classified as a bridge therefore it operates at the data link layer while the router operates at the Wefwork layer. Let us try to understand why. An early criticism of Ethernet was this probabilistic approach to media access control was not conducive to real-time systems (Thomas, 2011).

Response to Ethernet technology at the I/O level has been tremendous. Most field bus organizations are also accepting Ethernet technology. The overall Ethernet market is growing as more and more devices become Ethernet-enabled. While the automation industry continues its single digit growth, the real opportunity lies in extending current automation systems to new levels of functionality with Ethernet technology. Using Ethernet technology at the I/O level provides architecture for truly scalable, powerful networked input/output system. Ethernet I/O brings a whole new approach to device connectivity and interoperability. Opto 22 has developed a system called SNAP Ethernet I/O that connects industrial I/O systems with TCP/IP Ethernet (Hougland, 1999).

Two wireless enternet bridge equipment devices are reviewed: 1. the Linksys WET11, and 2. the D-Link Systems’ DWL-810. While you can use these bridges to connect an Ethernet-enabled computer to a wireless network, they will find more traction connecting to noncomputer Ethernet devices. Keith Shaw had success with the Turtle Beach Audiotron audio player, the Philips MC i200 Streamium audio player, and our Sonicblue replayTV 4500 personal video recorder (Shaw, 2002).

With 10BaseT, or twisted pair wiring, standard telephone wire is used to connect computers in a star layout. At the center of the star is a multiport repeater, or hub. The hub receives signals from any device connected to it and repeats them as full-strength, clear signals to all other devices. Only one network device can be connected to each hub. Each device that is to be connected to the hub must have Ethernet capability with a 10BaseT port. When a hub runs out of ports, another hub can be connected to it. All hubs that conform to the IEEE 10BaseT specification perform certain tasks. In its role as a network repeater, a 10BaseT hub receives a packet of data from a port, removes minor irregularities, and transmits the packet to all its working ports. The hub knows which ports are working by performing tests and monitoring error conditions. All 10BaseT hubs recognize and handle collisions that occur when 2 or more networked devices transmit data at the same time. Management software enables users to monitor and control their hubs (Poole, 1992).

Traditional Ethernet has always worked by checking to see if there’s traffic on the network before any attached device tries to transmit a packet. If there’s traffic, the device waits for a varying time and then tries again. Sometimes, two or more devices transmit traffic at the same time, resulting in a collision. When that happens, the devices wait for a varying time and then try again. As long as the Ethernet installation is moderately busy, this system of collision detection works fine. Although there are occasional collisions, they are not frequent enough to bother anyone or slow things down noticeably (Rash, 1995).

The Internet is a set of interconnected communications networks for the transfer of digital data. Therefore it is not owned or run by a specific company or institution, but it functions as a worldwide collaboration between an ever-growing numbers of companies, institutions, research centers, and commercial service providers, who set up a network of networks. Rank and Schmitt discuss the security risks that the Internet implies (Hanno,2005).

Samples of shaped and treated copper (Cu) fibre/brittle matrix composites have been fabricated with a variety of fibre shapes, treatments, diameters, and powder inclusions and tested for shielding effectiveness (SE) using the ASTM standard D4935-99 method over the frequency range 200 to 1500 MHz. A small amount of nickel (Ni) powder was included in some specimens which evaluate the effect of magnetic permeability on SE. Most tests were conducted at constant (15 vol%, “v% “) fibre volume fraction, it shows that a smaller fibre diameter results in significant SE improvements. SE was also substantially improved by relatively minor fibre shaping (which changes along the fibre length) or fine-scale roughening via chemical treatment. Addition of small amounts of Cu powder leads to major improvements in SE. Most of the improvements are presumably due to the establishment of conductive networks, although fibre shaping or treatment allows greater scattering and thus more internal reflections with attendant absorption. The smaller diameter fibres consistently gave better SE. When a continuous fibre mesh was used, high SE resulted, showing the dominance of fibre connectivity for such materials; the surface condition of the mesh is relatively unimportant. The improvements in SE can be achieved with essentially identical mechanical properties, leading to an effective multifunctional material, although most of the SE values achieved so far are modest. Ni powder results in overall improvement in SE, as well as the cyclic dependence of SE on frequency, which indicates phase interference at a scale of particle size not previously seen (Wetherhold, 2005).

Digital subscriber line (DSL) is a solution that can meet critical requirements for providing high-speed data services. DSL ensures the unfettered flow of voices and data traffic by providing high-quality, differentiated services at a reasonable cost to both the provider and consumer. For the network access provider, the principal benefit of DSL is its ability to permit the rapid flow of information while using the existing copper wire foundation. DSL bypasses the Class 5 switch for data-only calls. A consumer benefit is DSL’s always-on capability, which allows a user to receive information that is pushed toward the user at the time it is generated, according to a personalized profile, without the need for the user to dial-up. DSL provides a cost-effective way for telecommuters and branch offices to access the corporate network, provisioned via secure virtual private network services. The various types of DSL include: 1. asymmetrical DSL, 2. very high bit-rate DSL, and 3. data-only DSL (Signore, 1998).

The built-in Web server gives OEMs a simple way to configure and test new machines. Whether over the Internet or using a crossover cable for a direct hookup, engineers can use PCs with standard browsers to connect to the Web server on the snap card controlling the machine. The card can serve user-developed Web pages without programming but with just a basic knowledge of HTML. Using these pages, engineers can configure and test I/O points attached to the card at the first sign of trouble. Circle 404 (Raymond, 1999).

Incorporating Gigabit Ethernet into a network of desktop PCs is a proven solution to bandwidth problems, but it is so costly that most small companies cannot afford it. ZyXel Communications can alleviate these concerns with its GS-108, an eight-port 100/1000-Mbps switch. The GS-108 is housed in a small plastic case and is powered by an external AC adapter. The switch features auto-negotiation capability, which allows it to detect the speed of incoming signals and adjust on-the-fly without user intervention. The switch does not have a crossover port, so a crossover cable is needed to daisy chain additional switches and hubs (Randazesse, 2004).

Chapter 3
To accomplwash the study, the researcher used the Design, Develop, and Evaluate processes. It was a step-by-step process to have an easy pattern in making the system. In thwas chapter, the product will be designed, developed, and evaluated. Thwas model was more applicable where softwwere requirements were well defined. Each functionality well developed and meet the customer needs.
3.1 Research Plan
3.1.1 Designing The Connectivity Between The Two Internet Café of KM
The current design of the client namely the internet cafe of KM was a two separate internet cafe that was not technically connected with each other. It means that if a player on the main internet cafe wanted to play with a player on the sub internet cafe, they cannot be able to play with each other especially on local werea network (LAN) type of games. Only player that plays on the same internet cafe will be able to play with each other. With thwas type of design, it was obvious that the numbers of users/players was decreased and it lessened the interest of the customers to play on the specific internet cafe. With thwas problem, the researcher decided to propose a solution for the current problem of the said internet cafe. The researcher has a new design for the internet cafe that can enabled the players on both internet cafes to play with each other. The proposed design definitely will help the clients to gain more profit. The design will make the two internet cafe on a different location like an internet cafe on one location (technically means they were linked together).

Figure 1: Representation of the internet café current setup
The figure 1 represents the physical structure of the internet café of KM. Its design was a star type of network topology. The orange one that was round symbolizes the router. The router was called the in the setup as the WASP (internet service provider). The router was the one providing the internet service to the computers and gives the computers the capability to surf the World Wide Web. The rectangular shape was the switch. The switch was a networking device that has the capability to connect all the computers being linked with it. The triangular shape represents the PC (personal computer). It was the end device that the clients and the server use. In figure 1, it shows that the router, the switch, and the PC were connected with each other so it can be said that the PCs connected to the switch can shwere files with each other.

Figure 2: Representation of the physical output of the two routers linked with each other
The figure 2 shows the future physical structure of the two internet café of KM. It can be seen that the two internet café was connected and linked with each other. As discussed on the figure 1 the functionality of the network devices. In addition, the color blue line in between the two orange rectangles that represents as the crossover cable. The crossover cable was responsible in connecting router-to-router, switch-to-switch, and also PC-to-PC.

3.1.2 Developing the Connectivity between the Two Internet Café of KM
Studying the current setup and problem of the client and then analyze what could be possibly done to solve the problem. Based on the given problem, the researcher concluded to use a copper wire crossover cable a device that can connect the two internet cafe using the internet. Thwas algorithm could enhance the number of users/players being linked (connected) and increase the interest of the possible customers. In developing the current setup of the internet cafe it needs the networking tools and configuration. On the media part, the researcher will need a straight through cable. Straight through cable were used to connect the computers to the switch. Switch was a computer network device that was used to connect many devices together on a computer network. Straight through cable will also be used to connect the switch to the router. The router was the one responsible for internet connections. Internet connections depend on the internet provider such as PLDT and Globe. A line console was also used for the development of the topology. A line console was responsible on configuring the router manually or automatically depending of the person configuring it. The researcher needs functioning router, computer, and switch for the devices requirements. Without the three, the two internet cafe cannot be total useful and implemented. Configuration of the router was very important on developing the topology because it was where the official connectivity of the two internet café. The purpose of developing their current setup/design was to solve the problem of the internet cafe and to make use of the total number of computers they have.

To do the development part, it needs to setup two switch connected with each other using UTP cable then on each switch there will be one PC connected to it. Switch
In a telecommunications network, a switch was a device that channels incoming data from any of its multiple input ports to the specific output port that will take the data toward its intended destination. In the traditional circuit-switched telephone network, one or more switches were used to set up a dedicated though temporary connection or circuit for an exchange between two or more parties. On an Ethernet local were a network (LAN), a switch determines the physical device (Media Access Control or MAC) address in each incoming message frame which the output port forwards it to and out of. In a wide were a packet-switched network such as the Internet, a switch determines from the IP address in each packet which output port to use for the next part of its trip to the intended destination (Techtarget, 2014).

Using a switch as an instrument for the study was also needed. The switch plays an important role because it was the one giving the computers the capability to be connected together and also with the computers on a separate internet café Router
The router was connected to at least two networks; it decides which way to send each information packet based on its current understanding of the state of the networks which it was connected to. A router was located at any gateway (where one network meets another), including each point-of-presence on the Internet. A router was often included as part of a network switch. A router may create or maintain a table of the available routes and their conditions and use thwas information along with distance and cost algorithms to determine the best route for a given packet. Typically, a packet may travel through a number of network points with routers before arriving at its destination. Routing was a function associated with the Network layer(layer 3) in the standard model of network programming, the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model. A layer-3 switch was a switch that can perform routing functions (Techtarget, 2014).

Router was useful in the study because it was the one providing the internet that the customer wants. Most of the internet cafés do have routers on it because routers were one of the strengths of an internet café. Copper Straight through cable
According to Technopedia (2014) a straight-through cable was a type of twisted pair cable that was used in the local were a network to connect a computer to a network hub. This type of cable was sometimes called a patch cable. It was used as an alternative to wireless connections where one or more computers access a router through a wireless signal.

When compared through human body Copper Straight through cable serves as the veins because this cable was the main tool of my study. I will be using it to connect the switch towards the PCs and the router for the internet service. Copper Crossover Cable
A crossover cable was a type of cable installation that was use for the interconnection of two similar devices. It was enabled by reversing the transmission and receiving pins at both ends so that output from one computer becomes input to the other, and vice versa ( Technopedia, 2014).

Same with the straight through cable the crossover cable also serves as the veins of the study. The crossover cable can connect the switch-to-switch. Straight through cable cannot connect the switch-to-switch but only crossover cable can. Computer
A computer was a device that accepts information (in the form of digitalized data) and manipulates it for some result based on a program or sequence of instructions on how the data was to be processed. Complex computers also include the means for storing data (including the program, which was also a form of data) for some necessary duration. A program may be invariable and built into the computer (and called logic circuitry as it was on microprocessors) or different programs may be provided to the computer (loaded into its storage and then started by an adminwastrator or user). Today’s computers have both kinds of programming (Techtarget, 2014).

The need of computers in the study was important because it was the end-point of the connectivity. Without it, the connectivity between the switches of the two separate internet café cannot be appreciated with the owner and most specially the customers. Line console Cable
It was a serial cable used to attach to a piece of computer equipment that does not have normal input and outputs e.g keyboard and monitor. Using another computer to attach to the first via the serial port and cable and use a communication program to use the first computer’s operating system. Medium to upper level Cwasco and HP routers all have a console port for serial access.

The line console cable must be present on the study because it allows the developer to configure the router or the switch, to be able to connect the two internet café.

3.1.3 Evaluating The Connectivity Between The Two Internet Café of KM
To test the effectivity, the client will try to initiate a game since the main objective of thwas proposal was for the gamers, then another player from a different internet café will try to join the created game of the host. If the player on the main internet café can successfully join the host on the sub internet café then the proposed project can be conform to have been completely implemented. Every second that the players were connected it was considered as a multiple testing of the connectivity. The time the crossover cable was completely setup, then others can be access it. The testing was not only done once but at least 10 times, because every second that the two separate players were playing with each other, it proofs that the connectivity was effective.

To evaluate the connectivity between the two internet café, a questionnaire would be used. A questionnaire for the evaluator of KM NetCafe contains questions regarding the study that have been conducted. These were questions that can be used as a proof of the result of the study. There will be four evaluators that will answer the questions asked. To see the questionnaire, see Appendix A. Another questionnaire was for the customers of KM NetCafe, thwas questionnaire was an assessment of the effectivity of the conducted study. To see the questionnaire, see Appendix A.

3.2 Research Setting
The internet café of KM (Kytan & Mia) was the setting of the research. Specifically, the internet cafes’ location was beside the 1st building of Capitol University (right side if facing the entrance of cu and left side if facing the Budgetel, Corrales Ext. Street, Cagayan de Oro City). The other one was fronting the parking lot of Gaisano Mall.
3.3 Respondents of the Study
The customers and users of each computer in the two internet café of KM was the respondents. They were the respondents because the study was intended for them and also with the owners which gains the real benefit of the study.
3.4 Research Instrument
Dispersing an evaluation form was the main instrument of the research. An evaluation form was a set of papers that can be used as base information about the functionality of the study. It will give information about what was the status of the study and may give some faults. The methodology used was the design, develop, and evaluate kind of methodology.

Chapter 4
Testing, Discussion and Result
This chapter presents the testing of the proposed connectivity of the two internet café of KM connecting the two switches with crossover cable. Discussion of the captured images during the testing of the connectivity was included in this chapter.

To design the network ; two internet café using one ISP
Image 5.1 Topology representation of the study in packet tracer
Image 5.1 showed the packet tracer version of the connectivity of the two internet cafe of KM. The router was being connected to the switch to get internet using a straight through cable. There were two switches, both switch has a one PC connected to each switch. One switch was connected directly to the ISP router. To connect the two switches, a crossover cable was needed. Since the distance between the two internet café was 50 meters away from each other, a 60 meters long crossover cable was needed. Without the need of further configurations, the switch that was not directly connected to the router has an internet connection due to the crossover cable capability to connect the two switches.

To develop the connectivity of the two internet café using crossover-cable
Testing the proposed connectivity of the two internet café of KM requires a physical execution and not just on a packet tracer only. With the help of a letter sent to the owner, it has been granted to allow the borrowing of the 60meters long UTP cable. See Appendix B to see the letter to the owner.

Image 5.2 UTP crossover caleImage 5 showed the 60 meters long UTP cable. The said cable was a three separate UTP cable with a measurement of 20 meters long per separated cable. It is owned by Capitol University ICTS Department. The wire used was a UTP wire and category 5e.

Image 6 The two switches
The small switch (the labeled D-Link) was an 8 port switch that borrowed from Capitol University with the permission of the head on the ICTS Department. The other switch is owned by KM NetCafe, it was a 24 ports type if switch (the blue one at the back of the small switch)
Both of the switches were linked with a 60meters crossover cable. The small switch was connected to the PC2 and the blue switch was connected to the PC1.

4.2 List of game
The games that were allowed on connecting the two internet café are the following:
DOTA(Warcraft III/Frozen Throne)
Counter-Strike Source
Left 4 Dead
These are the list of game installed on each PC of the internet café on a LAN type of game.

To evaluate the effectivity of the network being connected.

In order to assess the connectivity of the two internet café of KM. A questionnaire was distributed to random customer and specific evaluator. The evaluator’s questionnaire was for the study of the researcher to have a feedback from the owner that can user the proposed study for personal purposes. The customer’s questionnaire was to assess the opinion of the customer and what the study can give to them To see the confirmation letter of the owner see Appendix C.

4.3.1 Result of the Questionnaire for the Evaluator of KM NetCafeAccording to the four(4) evaluators, the question number 1 (Can you connect to the player on the other internet café?) all have given a positive result (answered yes). The question number 2 (Can you share files?) also has a positive result (answered yes) and the question number 3 (Is it easy to connect?), also has a positive result ( answered yes). On the remarks, the evaluators’ answers have the same thought saying that “the testing of the connectivity of the switches using crossover cable is successful”.

There were four evaluators; three of them were related to the owner. It just means that the fourth evaluator was the owner himself. The testing of the connectivity was done on 7o’clock in the evening, there were four people left on the internet café which were the people related to the owner and the owner. They were served as the evaluator, since they were the one who were affected or could be affected to the study.

4.3.2 Result of the Questionnaire for the Customer of KM NetCafeOut of 10 customers were surveyed 9 of them rate 4 (Absolutely) on the question “Connectivity of the two internet café increased internet in playing on KM internet café?”. The second question “Would you pay again in this internet café because of the connectivity?”. All of the respondents rate 4 on it. Same with the 3rd question “Would you choose to play in an interconnected internet café rather than not connected?” has also been rated 4 of all the respondents, The fourth question was asking the respondents if the study is very useful and according to them, all said that the study was absolutely useful. With the overall question asked on number 5, all of the respondents rated 4 which mean that they were satisfied with the connectivity of the two internet café.

Chapter 5
This chapter provides the conclusion of the paper and recommendations which were drawn from the results obtained.

The study aims to connect the two internet café which were not in the same location to one network connection.
