SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In this chapter, the foregoing chapters are summarized, states the conclusions and recommendations.
Summary
Based from the data gathered, the following summary of findings were arrived at:
The study found out that the teachers and pupils have a positive attitude in the implementation of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education. In teacher’s attitude, the grand mean of 4.0625 is qualitatively described as “Agree”. The teachers attitude was furthered confirmed as positive through their responses in the interview. And in pupil’s attitude, the grand mean of 4.1754 is qualitatively described as “Agree”.
This study also found out that there are difficulties encountered by the teachers and pupils on the implementation of the MTB-MLE. On the difficulties encountered by the teachers, these are: lack and inappropriate teaching materials, preparing instructional materials, lack of proficient and trained mother tongue teachers and difficulty in language transition.
The difficulties encountered by the pupils are lack of learning materials, difficulty in language transition and difficulty in test/examination.
Conclusion
Based on the result of this study it can be concluded that MTBMLE is implemented in Cataguing Elementary School, but not without difficulties. Teachers encountered difficulties on the implementation of MTBMLE, these are lack and inappropriate teaching materials, difficulty in preparing instructional materials, lack of proficient and trained mother tongue teachers and difficulty in language transition. Also, pupils encountered difficulties on the implementation of MTBMLE and these are lack of learning materials, difficulty in language transition and difficulty in test/examination.
Despite the difficulties encountered by the teachers and pupils on the implementation of MTBMLE they still possess positive attitude. They believe that MTBMLE is effective because if they use mother tongue as medium of instruction, pupils can easily understand their lessons and can participate on the class discussion actively. These difficulties encountered should be address immediately to maintain the positive attitude of the teachers and pupils so that it will not hinder the meaningful learning of pupils and the effectiveness of teachers using mother tongue as medium of instruction.
Recommendations
The major findings in this study have prompted the researcher to make the following recommendations:
1. The Department of Education should immediately develop and provide enough teaching and learning materials which is translated into the pupil’s mother tongue.
2. This study was done on small scale of participants and the findings may not reflect the experiences of all teachers and pupils in the country. Future researches are encouraged to conduct the same study using bigger number of respondents to further check the validity of results.
3. The current research didn’t study the attitude of parents and communities in the implementation of MTB-MLE. Hence, future research on community and parental attitude is desirable.
4. This study is limited only on the difficulties encountered by the teachers and pupils. Future research about the strategies to cope with the difficulties and effectiveness of using mother tongue as medium of instruction on pupil’s academic performance is recommended.
