Chapter IIntroductionThis section of research paper will discuss the context, situation and studies wherein the present study is anchored to determine the factors affecting the interest of the student that aims to identify the effect of it in learning mathematics subject. Background of the StudyFactor is the reason that influences a person thought and action in doing a specific task. That contains the result or outcome of the decision that was withdrawn. According to Merriam Webster factor is something that help people produce and influence a result of one of the things that cause something to happen.
“We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistake, you are not your struggles, and you are here now with the power to shape your day and your future”-Steve MaholiIt only means that the life of a human in this world is full of challenges and mistakes. That we only learn from mistakes. A mistake that teaches us how to stand up and listen. And also, it is what it takes to understand and to be understood by others. That we create our own future by using education. In relation to this study, the quote proves that being a student is not an easy thing.
We encourage and make mistakes to learn not just to regret our failure but also to embrace it wholeheartedly. That even though a student faced many challenges or obstacles in life they can still find reasons to overcome and learn from it. That no money can stop them from dreaming, no hatred can stop them from doing, no failure can stop them from being what they are right now and no reasons can stop them from learning what they want to learn.
In the current situation student from Oriental Mindoro National High School only priorities the different hindrances that they may, or they encountered in their life. The student doesn’t give importance of those reasons why they can’t cope-up to their study.Mathematics is a educational subject that focuses on number and solving problem. Unlike other subject, mathematics is one of the essential source of individual in making-decisions and dealing business with other people. What are the significant relationship between the interest and behavior of Grade 10 students in terms of studying Mathematics subject in Oriental Mindoro National High School? Definition of TermsFactors- something that influences the person’s thought and action. Interest- behavior of students in learning or doing a certain task. Mathematics- the enhancement of the students mind in solving problem. OMNHS- Oriental Mindoro National High School. Respondents- the people that will answer the different question that the researchers will ask. Strategies- techniques used by students to perform a specific task. Students- learners who study mathematics subject in Oriental Mindoro National High School.
Studying- the act of adapting knowledge or ideas from school. Chapter IIIMethodologyThis section presents the research design methods, procedure, locale, and population, and instrumentational used in the conduct of the study as such, this section provide details of how data were gathered and treated. Research DesignThis study will use descriptive research design with a qualitative approach that will describe how the interest of selected Grade 10 students of Oriental Mindoro National High School are being affected by the different factors that they faced in learning Mathematics subject. The researchers will also use the combination of Case Study and Action Research phase to know the students interest in learning. This technique will enable the researchers to study the real meaning of factors and how can the factors affect the interest of the students in Oriental Mindoro National High School. Action Research Design because the researchers will suggest and recommend some ways on how students avoid or lessen the different factors that affect students interest in terms of learning mathematics.
Research RespondentThis study will use Grade 10 students of Oriental Mindoro National High School as the respondent. The respondent were chosen through the used of non-probability technique as a convenience sampling. Since the respondents are the most valid and accurate respondent in identifying the factors affecting the interest of a human in learning. Also, the researchers observed that Grade 10 is one of the most credible source in gathering data because of their convenient time and enough knowledge in studying a subject. Locale of the StudyThis study will be conducted in Oriental Mindoro High School particularly the Junior High School student of Grade 10.
Oriental Mindoro National High School under the system of K-12 Curriculum Program wherein the main objective of it is to create a high quality education for the solution of the long-term poverty that we are experiencing right now. One of the well-known school in Region IV-B that offers many subject and one of this is Mathematics. The researchers chosen Junior High School Grade 10 students because it was said that almost all students from Grade 10 doesn’t have interest when it comes to studying Mathematics subject. Data Collection InstrumentThe main instrument of this study will be interview instrument that will consist of open-ended questions. The narrative section of this report will first ask the respondent about the meaning of factors. Second the different factors that the respondent know in regard to their interest in learning. The third one is the struggles faced by respondent in overcoming the factors affecting their behavior and interest in learning Math subject.
And lastly, the researchers will ask the practices that the respondent used to excel and maintain high grades in this kind of subject (Mathematics).Data Collection ProcedurePrior to the actual collection of data, the researchers will make a request letter for the adviser and math teacher of Grade 10 students. Then the researchers will ask the permission of the adviser of Grade 10 students to allow the researchers to ask open-ended questions that will talk about the factors the faced by student in learning Math subject.
After, the approval researchers will use the time allot to avoid distractions. The researcher will give enough time for the respondent to answer the questions. The results of the interview will be recorded by the researchers to have a valid and reliable information. Chapter IIReview of Related LiteratureThis chapter presents the related literature and studies which have significant relevance on the study from which this chapter involved. According to Mustafa & Salim (2012), there are two central points influencing the students interest when it comes to studying, the individual factors and situational factors. The two factors are interrelated with each human initial interest whereby the individual can be practiced, produced or developed by situational factor that gives significant learning knowledge to every student. Then again, the interest that exists in every student can be diminished if the surrounding does not bolster the students way of studying. Mother age, attendance, income and time are the factors considered by the student that affect their performance. Mother age, turn out to be one important factors because it proves that the performance of a student is positively related to the mother’s control.
Attendance, it is true that the consistency of a student can be shown in their attendance. It reflects the eagerness of students in a way that it contributes their regularity in school. As implies by students, studying is not worthy if the performance of student is not concern by the time. And money, money can buy or get the comfort that students need to focus on their study however the income of the family influence the performance of the students because sometimes the needs that the student have cannot provide by the family (Hijazi & Naqvi, 2006).Based on the article entitled “Factors affecting High school students’ academic motivation in Taiwan” teaching and learning is one of the factors that construct the motivation or interest of students in learning. Meanwhile, the attitude of teachers and the characteristic of students in constructing ideas was engaged with the filtration of student in learning.
But contrary with that the financial manner of a student was said to be not the reason why the interest of student is gradually decreasing (Hardre et al.,2006). Chinaedum (2016), expressed that the interest of High school students relies upon teachers strategies in teaching, population of the class, government and availability of facilities. However, this factors may also be engage in creating more ideas in learning Mathematics.
Further, this factors may affect students interest in a positive or negative way.Factors affecting students’ interestin learning MathematicsA ResearchPresented to the Faculty of Senior High SchoolAt Oriental Mindoro National High SchoolCalapan City, Oriental MindoroIn Partial FulfillmentOf the Requirement for the SubjectResearch in Daily life 2Rodriguez, Angelou ElaizaOlivares, Ara MenaOlpindo, Justine Joy2018Oriental Mindoro National High SchoolCalapan City, Oriental Mindoro
