Hadn’t Dario Fo generated his play The Accidental Death of an Anarchist in a comical manner, the Italian fascist government of 1970 would have censored it. Dario Fo surely knew that if his play was more direct and aggressive, the play would have been censored and he would have paid the consequences.

The Accidental Death of an Anarchist surely served as political tool, not only because it denounced the so called “strategy of tension” used by the fascist government. Dario Fo has succeeded in his objective to inform the world about the activities the Italian government organized in order to accuse the left side.The Accidental Death of an Anarchist was used as a political tool in a diligent manner because Fo decided he would write in a humorous manner, without directly attacking anyone. Even though the play is comical, the reader still understands the message behind it. Dario Fo, reveals what occurred that day in the police station with his play. However, even though he reveals what might have occurred that day in the police station, the second message in the story might be taken for granted, since its not as strong, and since it is comical.The point was to demonstrate to the reader in which manner the Italian Fascist government manipulated events to make it always appear as if the Leftist side created problems. The only disadvantage of making the play comical is that the reader might just read it as a play, without even understanding or grasping the essence of the entire theme.

In order for Dario Fo, to publish such a story, the only way of doing so, was making his play comical.The government understood the intentions of Dario Fo, through his play, and therefore some police officers sent a certain group of men to rape his wife. Several years after the rape and torture of his wife Dario Fo says:“ Dear Mr President, this week’s newspapers have reported that several top officials from the Pastrengo division of the Carabineri paramilitary police ordered the rape and torture, 25 years ago, of Franca Rame, my wife. ”.

Dario Fo most likely knew the dangers in which he had put himself and his family into.However, he did not hesitate and published the play. Dario Fo, has altered public opinion, as he has gained a bigger audience, however, it would have been better if he had gained a bigger audience back then, since the audience of nowadays can’t act in any manner, to avoid, fascism. However, this play can be connected to the modern world of the 21st century, because the strategy used by the Italian Fascist government. Strategy of tension is often used in nowadays when governments need to decrease the popularity of their opponents, or to blame a certain group of people.The Russian government has bombed three buildings in Moscow, and has accused the Chechen people, for the actions. However, later it was found out that the government itself had plotted these events, in order, to accuse the Chechen guerilla fighters, and in order to make them appear as terrorists.

The same events occurred in the days this play was written. Even the United States funded an operation called “Operazione Gladio” which was meant to prevent, the Communists taking over the government. And therefore Dario Fo and his wife, were rejected from a visa request to the United States.Dario Fo, has brought to light this great play which emphasizes the actions of the Italian Fascist government, and the methods which governments use to accuse a group of people. He has succeeded in his objective, and was able to report the true facts about the past, which many articles fail to deliver. A play was a clever manner of avoiding censorship, and was the only way, which could have brought it to success.

The play acts beyond just a political tool, and it grabs the attention of the reader.
