Category I The source I chose for category 1 is Healthy People 2010 Objectives, found at the website, www. healthypeople. gov. This URL is the official website where you can find all the information about Healthy People 2010. Healthy People 2010 is a list of objectives for our nation that is set every ten years, that we will try to meet. The objectives are all health related and cover a wide range of different health aspects.

Specifically, the list includes 28 different focus areas with a total of 467 objectives. All of which, you can find with detailed information while navigating through this website. The idea behind Healthy People is simple. It is to identify the most significant and preventable threats to health in our nation and establish our goals to reduce these threats. In other words, its goal is to raise awareness and challenge us a country to work together to take steps to ensure good health. As you can see, Healthy People covers so many different health aspects.

So, there is no way they can provide detailed information about a specific topic. My topic is about nutrition intervention in the treatment of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other eating disorders. Only one of the 467 objectives deals specifically with eating disorders. Under focus number 18, which is “Mental Health and Mental Disorders,” the fifth objective is to “Reduce the relapse rates for persons with eating disorders including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. ” This is still a developmental objective, meaning that they do not have a specific number rate that they want to reduce to.However, they do show the definition of the two main eating disorders, while showing some facts that state that relapse rates are going up. What I found most interesting about this objective is that it was found under the focus of mental health disorders instead of the focus of Nutrition.

In conclusion, this source does address my topic, but not in great detail. However, this is a credible source and does serve a great purpose as it raises health awareness. Category IIThe source I chose for Category II is the National Eating Disorders Association, otherwise known as NEDA. The official website for this organization can be found at www.

nationeatingdisorders. com. NEDA is a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting the people and the families that are affected by eating disorders. More specifically, their mission statement says, “NEDA supports individuals and families affected by eating disorders, and serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures and access to quality care. In 2001, NEDA was formed when it combined with Eating Disorders Awareness & Prevention and the American Anorexia Bulimia Association.

This combination is what made NEDA the largest and longest standing eating disorders prevention and advocacy organization in the entire world. Most importantly, what I found from this source is that it would provide a sense to those people who are suffering from these disorders that they are not alone in their struggle to find quality care and support. On the main page itself, you will find an information & referral helpline for people who need direct support with dealing with their eating disorder. Also on the main page, you will see links to eating disorder news, educational sessions with professionals, conferences, information and resources, programs and events, research efforts, how to get involved and even a store. I think the most important information that can be found from this source is about the STAR program which stands for States for Treatment Access and Research.NEDA established this to try to improve access to treatment of eating disorders by speaking with state legislators and making alliances with other groups. Here is where you can find information about the Affordable Care Act for woman with a full Commonwealth Fund report from the White House about the impact of this act.

You will also find full text of an eating disorder legislation signed into law in Missouri. This law is significant because it provides opportunity for education and prevention efforts in the state.
