“An object in motion tends to stay in the same direction unless acted upon by an external force.” No statement can express my experience in life so precisely and effectively as Newton’s first law. I have never thought that a law in physics applies so accurately to a personal experience in life.

I had always thought experiences in life are beyond the scope of any precise definition of science. However, when I have applied this law in physics to one of my most important experiences in life, I am able to understand the profound truth that lies behind the words of that great scientist. Naturally, a discovery makes one happy, and this is true even in my case.As far as my memory allows me to recollect, I had never been known for any proactive behavior in my life.

I was always self-centered and concerned with only myself. I had never allowed any thought to help any person other than myself. It often pulled my spirits down and made me pessimistic in my attitude. Though I was a good student in terms of grades, I never enjoyed the privilege of being a pet student of any of my teachers. Whenever I was warned about any thing by anyone, it just left a scar on my mind. I never took any suggestion positively.

When my school Principal called me to her chamber and warned me against my adamant attitude, I was totally upset and I was in the lowest of my spirits. As a result, I felt more and more lonely and developed a sense of insecurity and lost confidence just before my final exams when I was in class 10. I lost my confidence and decided not to face the exams. When my final exams were in just two days, I got a call from my language teacher asking me to meet him in the staff room. I did not go to him; instead I went home as I was not feeling well down with depression. That evening, to my great surprise my language teacher came to my house.

He wanted to talk to me and asked me if I was fine. I found a lot of difference in his approach which I had never seen in him before. He was so gentle and sensitive to my feelings and asked my about my reason for not taking the exam. I was much shocked to know how he came to know about it.

He spent the whole evening with me sharing even his personal experiences and how he has overcome some of them. I was so moved when I saw his welling eyes when he was narrating a similar situation I was in. I was so moved by his kindness in showing special care for me. I changed my mind and expressed my wish to do whatever he would tell me.

He just asked me to take the exam and not to miss it. His care and concern have totally changed my attitude. He had no personal gain nor was it his job responsibility to come to my house and advise me.That incident has left a strong impression on my mind. I have realized the power of love and care from my teacher. He has always been with me whenever my spirits were low.

His words have always raised my confidence and hope. The happiest day in my life was when he invited me for lunch and when I was received by his family with great love and affection. That day he presented me a book, How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie. While giving me the book, he said “Our life is what our thoughts make it.”Those words still ring in my ears though I heard those words years ago.

My teacher has left an indelible impression on me and has changed my attitude. Now I realize that I was going in just one direction i.e. being self centered until I encountered a different experience from my teacher. My teacher has shown me a new direction with his selfless and kind approach.
