To define peace, I had to use the internet and I found “Peace is the essence of our existence. It is the freedom to pursue our dream. It is our ability to express ourselves. It is the opportunity to relate with others with understanding, good will and cooperation.
It is a cornerstone of our survival and triumph as a species while Culture is the full range of learned human behavior patterns. ” (http://worldunderstandingandpeace. om July 22 2012) So if one disregards culture in the making of peace between people who lived in different societies, attaining peace would be very much more difficult or even impossible than trying to make peace while putting culture in consideration. For example, if one puts people from Visayas in Metro Manila, he would be teased by and laughed at by the Manilenyos because of the way they talk or do things, I for one is an example of someone who cannot stop but notice the way they speak or how they act in the city, but even if that is the case I just ignore it because for me, that’s what they are and they were raised that way.So even if one would make an army that will make people to stop bullying one another, having to use force cannot stop the violence of discrimination, it would never stop, still it would return to discriminating one another, now where is peace in that? To attain peace, one must really consider their culture, respect them, accept them, and leave them alone and stop the discrimination. Now what is respect? “Respect is an important way of being kind and good to other people. Respect means not making fun of others.Respect means thinking of how somebody else feels.
Respect is treating another person the same way you’d want to be treated yourself. You show respect by appreciating people’s differences, like seeing someone as unique for the outfits they wear, rather than thinking they’re weird for dressing differently. You also show respect by not making people feel uncomfortable, like not pressuring another kid to play on the big slide if they say they’re scared of being so high up. You even show respect when you lend a helping hand. (http://www. whyzz.

Next up, is Discrimination. What is discrimination? “Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of an individual based on his or her membership – or perceived membership – in a certain group or category.
It involves the group’s initial reaction or interaction, influencing the individual’s actual behavior towards the group or the group leader, restricting members of one group from opportunities that are available to a group, leading to the exclusion of the individual or entities based on logical or irrational decision-making. ” (http://en. wikipedia. org July 22 2012) Discrimination is a form of violence and it must be stopped, well if it cannot be stopped then it should be put to the minimum.
Nobody really likes being discriminated, well, do you? In any case, it still should be stopped or minimized.Next is acceptance. What is acceptance? “Acceptance in human psychology is a person’s assent to the reality of a situation, recognizing a process or condition (often a negative or uncomfortable situation) without attempting to change it, protest, or exit.
The concept is close in meaning to ‘acquiescence’, derived from the Latin ‘acquiescere’ (to find rest in). ” (http://en. wikipedia.
org July 22 2012) It doesn’t mean that you respect what a person does and/or how a person does his daily tasks, you accept it, there are some cases that you respect something that you don’t accept. For example the Manny Pacquiao versus Timothy Bradley fight. I am pretty sure that most people who have watched the fight do not accept that Bradley won the fight against Pacquiao, but still they respected the decision by the judges because they know they there is nothing that they can do.
By the way, WBO already announced that Pacquiao won the fight. Anyway, let’s get back to the topic. As I was saying, along with respect should be acceptance of the different cultures, we do not want to keep inner violence of having hatred or whatever negative thoughts or feelings against the well-being of another person. So to attain peace, we should first have some respect, and then accept the differences that we have and not use it against one another. And the next point is working with other people. Let me first get something to define solidarity with. “Solidarity is the integration, and degree and type of integration, shown by a society or group with people and their neighbors. It refers to the ties in a society that bind people to one another.
The term is generally employed in sociology and the other social sciences. What forms the basis of solidarity varies between societies. In simple societies it may be mainly based around kinship and shared values. In more complex societies there are various theories as to what contributes to a sense of social solidarity. ” (http://en. wikipedia.
org July 22 2012) One cannot avoid being in a workspace, group, class, or whatever place you can think of where you have to be with others. You will encounter people that grew up from a different culture than yours. ‘No man is an island’ so you really cannot escape people who come from other places. You cannot argue with the phrase ‘no man is an island’ because it is true. No matter what argument you have hidden in the deepest and darkest side of your brain and soul, you cannot counter that phrase. Anyway, back to the topic. While being with these people and working with them to make a project or if you are business partners, you really need to set away all the differences and puns that you are thinking inside of your head to blend with them. Being different from each other is really not that bad, it is also a way of having new ideas for innovations.
One culture plus another culture can make great things happen. And oh, maybe you are thinking that what I am saying is irrelevant. Let’s put it this way. For example you have a project that will make people from all over the world to live a better life. That project it is a group project.
Your group is made up of people that grew up from different cultures. Of course when you meet your group mates you’d think it would be better if the group is made up of people of your own kind so you can have all the benefits that you want.Well I say if you work with your own kind and have all the benefits, in one way or another, you will have some of your benefits to the cost of other people from other culture rather than really making everyone live a better life. But if you remove that thought in your head and just work with these other people in harmony, I am pretty sure that the project will be done, maybe not perfect, but at least with no side effects. And yeah, it’s called Project Peace.
