Gun Control and Gun Violence “The Federal Bureau Investigation Uniform Crime Report involving firearms showed to be at sixty-seven point seven percent of the nation’s murders, forty-one point three percent of robberies, and twenty-one point two percent of aggravated assaults… From January 2012 to June 2012 there was an increase of one point nine percent violent crimes reported. ” (FBI) There should be a balance between Gun Control and Gun Violence. Gun Violence will never go away as long as there are guns. Guns will never go away as long as Americans hold their right to the Second Amendment.
Balance is needed in a world filled with the good and bad. With the rise of mass murders, homicides and aggravated assaults involving firearms, a desperate time for gun control is needed for order in this country. Gun Control needs a higher standard for law abiding citizens. There is no reason for guns to be easily in the hands of criminals or the ill-minded. The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (1791)With emphasis on the word “regulated”, it eems regulations did not restrict Jason Holmes from attacking Aurora Movie Theater in Colorado (CNN). What a coincidence that this mass killer may escape the death penalty simply because he may plead INSANITY. People do not have standards with guns, as they do with a driver’s license. There are regulations for those who are impaired while driving. They have consequences when innocent lives have been taken or are at risk. A drunk driver is held accountable and so should a gun owner.
It is as easy as having a renewable license every four to five years, that a person can onfirm his sanity still intact or a threat to society as non-existent. There is no hassle in proving the right to bear arms by going through a simple renewal process. Whether it is a sawed off shot-gun or a . 32 caliber, the right to bear arm is not violated if all precautions are taken to keep every family safe and that includes showing responsibility to have it under the same roof as a child or anywhere near a mentally ill person. It takes the mental ability to obtain a gun and the mental ability to keep it safe from those who can do harm.
That mental ability means common ense. Everyone who is smart enough will have the common sense to keep what is suppose to protect them out of harm’s way. A security lock on any gun should be required to have in any and every gun owners home. Proper securities needed to be taken to account to be a gun owner.
