Men and Women, Now and Then… Despite the obvious physical differences between men and women, education, choice of profession, and roles at home, which have been changing from the beginning of the human kind; it should not be said that men are superior to women. The roles of men and women have changed in the past centuries and are different nowadays. Thirty years ago the roles of women were very different to that of today. At that time, women were responsible to attend exclusively home and family tasks.
Men were considered superior; they were more important and valuable in the society than women. For centuries, men were allowed to play more sports that women were not; such as football, tennis, among many others. However, women have shown that despite of the fact that they may be physically weaker, they can do the same sports and jobs that men do.
Gradually women were allowed access into “men-duties. ” Another point to consider is that in the past, women prepared daughters for life as housewives or mothers.Women had to attend courses of study in order to be teachers, secretaries, seamstresses or they simply stayed at home to be housewives their whole lives; while their husbands were out working. Domestic training was preferred instead of having academic preparation that only men were allowed to attend.
Nowadays, men and women have the same rights; they have the ability to vote, the opportunity of choosing a career as well as the chance of working. There are lots of women who have successful careers as doctors, architects, engineers, lawyers, and many other jobs that used to be specifically for men. As women have the same education as men, they have the same capacity to get any job. For instance, we may find the manager of a company or even the president of a country to be a woman.
This example shows that women are perfectly qualified to do jobs that used to be specifically for men. Women are ready to make the same commitment to the company as men aspiring to leadership positions. Therefore companies should consider providing them with equal opportunities as this will only benefit the company.
In conclusion, men and women are different in many ways, but have the same values to society. Some differences, such us body structure and strength are not changeable and will always remain. There will always be jobs and duties that only men or women can do due to physical conditions; but that does not make any gender greater or lesser. After all, the world would not be as exciting if both genders were to be exactly the same.
