My favorite vehicle is the Nissan GT-R. I think it is the most outstanding car there is. In this research paper, I will write about the Nissan GT-R. The Nissan GT-R is known for their amazing racing on tracks. They have a great history of where it originated. The performance of the GT-R is insane for a small engine. The outer and interior design of the vehicle is nice. The Nissan GT-R has exceeded since the year they were born. Then later taking down other big brand vehicles like Porsche, Ferrari, and etc.HISTORICAL CONTEXT ABOUT THE GTR The creator of the GT-R was “Prince Motor Company,” but they were a racing company, which means they did not produce cars for the public but for the people who wanted to race only. The company was founded in 1952 in Japan. They made their own first Skyline in 1964, which was called the “Prince Skyline.” The Skyline was highly successful in GT racing and had won 50 overall race victories. The Skyline was later renamed Skyline 2000 GT.The company wanted to make it a production car so they joined Nissan Automotive to help them make a lot to sell. There are as of today six generations of Nissan GT-Rs.First Generation GT-R (1969-1972.) The first Nissan was the Skyline GT-R. It came as a 4-door sedan and as a 2-door coupe. Both models came with a 5-speed manual transmission. It was originally available as the 4-door sedan in an auto show in 1969. Another model, the Nissan R380 race-car, was also shown on the show but was only a showcase to show the heredity of Skyline racing. This model was a sports edition and was the only 2-door coupe and became available until 1971.Second Generation GT-R (1973.) This generation of Skyline was improved in aerodynamics and had a little more parts added for improvements. The bad thing was they were not successful because of crisis that happened and caused demands for performance cars to die. “It was a performance champion, Admittedly, one could find all these statistics on the most basic economy car today, but in 1969, the GT-R was a big deal, especially in Japan. Nissan launched the second-generation Skyline GT-R in 1973, just as the worldwide gas crisis and economic downturn had begun. The car was short-lived, and Nissan pulled the plug in 1974” (Joe Tralongo 1). The Nissan GT-R came back after their downfall in 1989.Third Generation GT-R (R32) (1989-1994.) The Skyline GT-R had a new redesigned look. The demands for the was extremely high that Nissan decided to make an unlimited number of production GT-Rs. This Skyline came with a 2.6 liter V6 twin turbocharged engine. It also had all-wheel drive to help produce power to the rear and front wheels. It is said to have to sell over 40,000 cars by the of 1994. This was sold worldwide except in North America. This did have a racing concept that was used for racing and it produced 600 horsepower, this car was kept well a secret. “But now it makes 600 hp at the wheels, the modifications tucked away and hidden: gauge pods are mounted in the glove compartment, a cold-air intake is disguised as a washer fluid bottle. “A sleeper,” he says, eyes twinkling with glee (Brendan McAleer 1). The first Nismo was introduced in 1990. The Nismo was a more sporty version of the standard model base. It did weigh less, tires were better, and did have a bigger turbo. This specific generation got the nickname “Godzilla.” The Nissan GT-R was nicknamed “Godzilla” for being an outstanding legend. It was an overpowered car.  “. . . because the GT-R and the Skyline family which directly preceded it are as legendary as the titular kaiju which lends the car its nickname: Godzilla, The Nissan GT-R is as much myth as machine and Japan’s premier pavement-shredder has eked out a name for itself for the past six decades as the last word in hardcore performance” (Ryan McElroy 1). This vehicle was very popular in the commercials of the Godzilla movies in Japan. This car was too fast for police to catch so America did not want. So from there, all the GT-Rs are nicknamed “Godzilla.” Fourth Generation (R33) (1995-1998). The R33 was the same as the R32 but fixed problems that the R32 had. “The R33 generation was mostly just an evolution of the R32. It featured the same engine, but torque increased slightly to 264 pound-feet. The 0-60 mph time was down to 5.0 seconds, but the greater achievement was a 7:59 lap of the Nürburgring. A monster R400 model made 395 horsepower thanks to bigger turbos and increased displacement to 2.8 liters. It could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds flat. Launched in 1997, only 44 R400s were built. For most customers, the V.Spec model was the sportier choice, with a firmer suspension, a lower ride height, and an active limited-slip rear differential.” (Kirk Bell 2). This generation had many different models.Fifth Generation (R34) (1999-2002). The R34 generation also improved over the last two generations. If you have seen the Fast and Furious” movies, then you should know that Paul Walker special car was his blue-grey Skyline GT-R. “The R34-generation of the GT-R benefitted from the racing and testing done for the two previous generations. It still made 276 horsepower, but turbo lag was reduced, it had more torque, and a new Getrag 6-speed manual replaced the 5-speed. The body was also stiffer, the aerodynamics were improved, and several weight-saving measures were employed, including the use of a carbon fiber rear diffuser. The car was also shorter, as was the front overhang. An R34 GT-R has been featured in several of the “Fast and Furious” movies, giving U.S. car enthusiasts a taste for unobtainable Japanese performance cars.” (Kirk Bell 2). Due to these movies, people in the United States commented so many good things about the GT-R, that it became one of the reasons why it later came to North America.Sixth Generation (R35) (2008-present). The Nissan GT-R finally came to America in 2008. It is the sixth generation GT-R. “The first GT-R to be offered in the United States, the R35, dropped the Skyline name. It arrived in Japan in December 2007 and in the United States in July 2008 with a starting price just under $78,000. The new engine was a twin-turbocharged . . . 3.8-liter V-6 spinning out 480 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. . .. The performance was much improved, and it has improved steadily since the R35’s release (Kirk Bell 1). Since 2008, the  GT-R has gotten huge improvements. Little improvements were no longer a thing.PERFORMANCE OF THE BEAST Yes, it was better improved with each passing year model. The 2008 R35 GT-R went 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and that crazy during that time. The 2017 Nissan GT-R was way faster than its predecessor. It has way more performance features than the older models. The 2017 model has 565 horsepower; it doesn’t have much more horsepower but it is way faster than a lot of supercars.  “. . . few cars come close to the GT-R’s 0-60 mph times of less than three seconds, or its brilliant all-wheel-drive handling. It delivers blistering acceleration, hooking up perfectly with awe-inspiring traction from the GT-R’s brainy all-wheel-drive system.” (Kirk Bell 2). This car’s top speed recorded was 199 mph. Its specialty wasn’t just for drag racing but also for the track. This GT-R’s brakes and handling are extremely strong and because of that, it is extremely good for the tight corners of the road. The tires have strong sticky grip, so you won’t slip at all. Even when going 140 mph you will have complete control of the vehicle. The GT-R biggest competitors are the Porsche 911 turbo and the Audi R8, those two cars high-end sports cars yet the Nissan still beats them. The thing is that this car is a v6 and most all other brands are v8 which means that the GT-R’s motor is smaller. Most people expect that the v8 engines to be faster and stronger, which in most cases it is, but in this case, it isn’t.  This car went up against Camaro, Mustangs, Corvette and has beat in races as well. So GT-R has proven themselves to be small but QUALITYIf you are going to be buying a 120,000-dollar car it has to have a luxurious style. The GT-R has exterior body style where anyone could tell it is an expensive fast car. It has a nice exhaust sound to it when revving at high RPMs. Its V-shaped grille shows out to make more aerodynamic and look stunningly good. The interior design is a very high end as well. Everything your hands can lay on has orange tan leather. The other places that don’t have leather are either carbon fiber or brushed metal. On the center front of the dashboard, the 2017 GT-R has an 8-inch touchscreen display. Below the display is controls to change the mode of the vehicle. For example, the first mode is “Walk Mode” or just regular for normal driving on the road. The second is “Race Track” where it electronically disabled the speed limiter, which is limited to a 156 mph.  There are other controls for traction and suspension positioning. It is a really quiet vehicle on the inside. It’s a smooth ride all the way and has plenty of leg space for the front passengers so you won’t be cramped in there. The seats are “contoured sports seats” and are really comfortable. The GT-R is a four-seater but unless you’re a child you won’t be seating in the back seats so just use them as “extra storage.” It contains many more features but all those things are what all present cars have.CONCLUSIONThe Nissan GT-R has an interesting past. It had facts that I never knew. The GT-R is always looking out for new competition to advance itself to a higher level of performance. It still keeps designs that the older generations had. The Nissan GT-R will give you a thrill of a lifetime. I hope that one day I get to own one myself to experience the fun that the “Godzilla” has to offer.
