One researcher to collect a large amount of

One significant strength of Tamisoglou (2010) is the richness of the data obtained from
the study. Because the focus group interviews allow respondents to build on each other’s
responses, the scope and depth of the data collected in the study are considered rich, providing
different facets of the subject matter, history. The group interview survey allows the researchers
to employ a large sample size to increase the accuracy and validity of results obtained.
The group survey methodology is a comparatively easy study to set up. As such,
replicating this study is possible in a similar or different setting. The ease of setting this type of
study also affects the costs, i.e., the group survey method is economical compared to other study
methodologies. Additionally, the use of a group survey method allows for the researchers to
expedite the process of information collection.
Questionnaire
A questionnaire provides a host of advantages to the researcher, most of which are
particularly suited for the research by Grever, Hadyn, and Ribbens (2008). A questionnaire is
useful for the study for five distinctive and major reasons. A questionnaire can be distributed and
collected by the researcher or other individuals with minimal effect on the reliability and validity
of the study. Using a questionnaire, the researchers can easily replicate the study in a different
geographical setting to ascertain the findings of the study (Chandra & Sharma, 2013).
Questionnaires are cost-effective and are especially beneficial in a situation where
financial resources are limited (Cooper & Schindler, 2014). The cost-effectiveness of the
methodology also makes it easy and relatively simple to replicate the study in a different

geographical setting. This is because questionnaires enable the researcher to collect a large
amount of information from multiple people simultaneously. As such, it is also time-efficient.
Additionally, questionnaires are designed in a manner that allows the researchers to
quantify the results. As such, the qualitative information collected from questionnaires can be
quantified to obtain an overview of the opinions and attitudes of respondents (Cooper &
Schindler, 2014). The analysis of data and information from questionnaires are more objective
and scientific than other forms of research. Finally, questionnaires allow for the anonymity of
respondents, allowing the research to adhere to fundamental ethical standards of medical
research (Cooper & Schindler, 2014). Questionnaires are also issued to a respondent at their
consent to take part in the study, adhering to the rules and regulations that govern evidence-based
research methods.
Weaknesses
Focus Group
The focus group survey methodology employed by Tamisoglou (2010) causes the study
to have one underlying flaw, i.e., the skewed representation of the views and opinions of the
target population. The type and quality of information collected in focus groups are susceptible
to a number of confounding factors, such as the moderator, the strategies employed in
moderation, the personalities of the group and other socio-cultural factors. As such, the data that
is collected may be difficult to analyze as it is a representation of a complex blend of student
views and opinions pertaining to history as a subject.
