RESEARCH PLAN
Title: Effectiveness of Pomelo (Citrus maxima) Bark as Antibacterial Hand Sanitizer against Salmonella and E.coli.
Name of the Researchers: Elyssa Bianca C. Palaca
Nerievel F. Morales
Claire Anne Duran
Proposed date: August 1, 2018- October 1, 2018
Problem Being Addressed
Salmonella and E.coli are both bacteria and they are fundamentally very similar. Both bacterias are can be found in foods. Salmonella can cause Salmonellosis that can affect the intestinal tract and E.coli and most varieties of E.coli are harmless or can cause relatively brief diarrhea. With these, the researchers want to find out if the crude extracts of Pomelo bark have affects on the Cladosporium.
B. Goals
1. To explore and evaluate the effect of pomelo bark against E.coli and Salmonella.
2. To produce an affordable Antibacterial hand sanitizer.
3. To evaluate the potential of pomelo bark as Antibacterial hand sanitizer agent against Salmonella and E.coli
C. Experimentation on the E.coli and Salmonella
The whole duration of the experimentation will be 2-3 weeks. Different samples of the bacteria will be tested. Each sample will be added 500 ml. The result will be observed and recorded.
C.1 Procedure
A. Collection of Plant Materials
Pomelo bark will be collected within Nabunturan area. The bark will be washed thoroughly then will be air dried for two days and will be soaked with ethanol. It will be left to stand for 48 hours and will be filtered. The extract will be measure and will be place in a clean container.
B. Collection of Bactearia
The E.coli and Salmonella samples will be collected from Department of Science and Technology Laboratory Davao Campus, Davao City.
Making of Hand Sanitizer
Easy steps to make a hand sanitizer
Step 1. Fill your bottle 1/4 to 1/3 of the way full with vodka.
Step 2. Add 10 to 15 drops of each of the essential oil. This essential oil have anti- bacterial property.
Step 3. Fill your bottle the rest of the way with aloe vera gel and shake well.
C.2 Risk and Safety
The researchers would ensure that the materials will be use are properly sterilized. The researchers would wear proper laboratory attire.
C.3 Data Analysis
The statistical tool that will be use is ANOVA to determine the significant difference between to control group and experimental group.
