Tattoos and body piercings have been around for many years. Whether they are used as a form of expression or used to increase stimulation, tattoos and body piercings continue to thrive in our society around the globe. In this essay, I intend to show the pros and cons of tattoos as well as body piercings from a neutral perspective.

Procedures in some cultures have traditional ways to create tattoos by cutting designs into the skin and rubbing the resulting wound with ink or ashes some cultures create tattoos marks by hand tapping the ink into the skin using sharpened sticks or animal bones with clay formed disk or in modern times which are needles. The most common method of tattooing in modern times is the electric tattoo machine. This modern procedure is ordinarily sanitary. The needles are single use needles that are package individually. The tattoo artist must wash not only his hands or her hands, but they must also wash the area that will be tattooed. Gloves must be worn at all times and the wound must be wiped frequently with a wet disposable towel of some kind. The time it takes to get a tattoo is in proportion with its size and complexity. Tattoos can be good and it can also be bad. There are a lot of intolerance towards people who have tattoos and especially those who have a lot of tattoos. Tattoos will never go away which fascinates some people and scares others.

Tattoos will not change the world. The tattoo cannot be soaked in water for 7-10 days, it cannot be exposed to the sun for 2-3 weeks, and it is detrimental that the skin is not picked or scratched in the area around the tattoo also. Anyone who wants a tattoo has to have a high threshold for pain. Where the tattoo is located will generally tell a person how much discomfort will be involved. Some of the body parts that cause the most discomfort for men and women are: head, neck, back and front of the knee, hands, and the wrists just to name a few.

Usually the parts of the body that has more fat or muscle buildup be cause the least amount of pain. This would include the: stomach, buttocks, outer arm, and the calves. No matter where you get a tattoo it will hurt, but it’s not unbearable. A major advantage of body piercing is the pain is manageable and only lasts for the first day. For most people it is just a slight stinging feeling. Some of the risks that come with getting a tattoo are infection at the site of the tattoo, allergic reaction to the tattoo dye, the spread of disease such as HIV and Hepatitis C, granulomas and keloid formation.

Tattoos will never go away and they will always be part of culture due to the desire of mankind to control and express oneself. There are ways to remove a tattoo though. A tattoo can be displaced by surgery that is painful, may leave scars, and is costly. The surgery is not covered by insurance and costs over $1,000. In most countries, some people find forms of body piercing distasteful or refuse to permit employees to display their piercing in the job as part of the dress code. Attitudes towards piercing vary. Some see the practice as a form of artistic or self expression.

Some may chose to be pierced as a form of sexual expression or to increase sensitivity. Standard method in the United States involves making an opening using a hollow medical needle. The needle is inserted into the body part being pierced. While the needle is still in the body, the initial jewelry to be worn in the piercing is pushed through the opening, following the back of the needle. Piercing using hollow medical needles do not actually remove any flesh, the method cuts a “C” shaped slit and holds it open in the shape of the cross section of the needle.

Piercings that penetrate cartilage are often pierced one or two gauges larger than the jewelry, to reduce pressure in the healing piercing, allowing for the internal skin tube that connects the two ends of the piercing, to properly form. The proper removals of piercings are rather simple. Carefully remove the jewelry making sure not to pull or irate the piercing. Body piercing is far easier to take care of in the weeks following the piercing. Depending on the body part all that is suggested is that for the first few weeks you apply a disinfection lotion or some other form of anti-bacterial liquid.

Other than that piercings are free of care. It is said that piercing hurts less with a gun but it is advised to use a needle for safety reasons. The only other way a piercing . The only other way a piercing could cause pain would be if a person got an infection. There is a risk of infection but only if a person does not care for their piercing properly. . A person can take out the jewelry for a few months and then decide to put it back in depending on where the piercing is. A person cannot wait too long, though, because the hole will close up fairly quickly.

If someone decides to take out their piercing forever then the only reminder of the piercing would be a tiny scar where the hole was. Even though they are creative and may add interest as well as curiosity. Tattoos and body piercing have become a way of therapy. They have become solutions to making people feel better about themselves. Also, the medical aspect should be of concern.

People ‘s bodies have been known to react differently to both processes due to the lack of precision in carrying out the process, as well as the body in particular may not be formatted for neither piercing nor tattoo.
