The Great Pyramid of Giza is located on the west bank of the Nile River on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. This was the greatest accomplishments of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the world, not requiring any description as it is the only and oldest left still standing. It’s structure is based on geometry. Each aspect of the structure breaks down to geometric formulas and each stone was strategically placed to ensure the pyramid was created perfectly.
It took less than 30 years to build this monument in which was built by the Egyptian pharaoh, Khufu. The purpose of the pyramid was to be a tomb after his death and to transport him to the afterlife. This was a place of protection for the bodies of the Egypt pharaohs for eternity.
There are many theories as to how the pyramid was actually pieced together and who specifically helped contribute their hard-work to build such a great achievement of ancient civilization of Egypt. It is said that over 2.3 million blocks of stones were used and that over 4,000 men helped construct this masterpiece. The weight and size of the pyramid is massive.
Even the placement of the pyramid has its purpose. It is documented that the pyramid was built to face the North Pole or also known as the face of True North. It’s suppose to be at the Earth’s center, based on the findings from the well educated Egyptians along with their math and science. It is also said that the shape of the pyramid may have represented the sun’s rays. It is the tallest building in the world for over 4,000 years.
There are other pyramids located in Egypt but the Great Pyramid of Giza is the most well-known and popular. The pyramids were built as Pharaoh’s stairway to heaven. The structure and measurements all have meaning and a purpose to the Egyptian population. There is still mystery behind the construction of this beauty but it will continue to stand out for its history.
