Zac WoodDriving into the famous town of Las Vegas, you wouldn’t imagine that you were about to enter a twenty-four hour party. But that’s exactly what happens. After driving for hours across boring Nevada deserts, seeing the city of Las Vegas is truly a sight to see. Nevada is home to some of the United States most recognizable cities and deserts in the world, including Death Valley, the hottest desert in the world, and Las Vegas, the city known globally for gambling and neon lights everywhere. The Battle-Born state also has some of the most interesting history in the US. Although nowadays Nevada is assorted with gambling, from the year 1910 all the way through 1931, gambling was illegal. Much like the national prohibition that followed up this, most machines and casinos ignored this law, and instead just moved to more discreet places. In 1941, the El Rancho Vegas resort opened on a section of U.S. 91 just outside the city’s jurisdiction. Soon after, many hotels and casinos opened nearby and the section of highway became known as “The Strip”. Once the law was taken back, it was when Las Vegas finally started growing to be known for what is now, Sin City or the City of Gambling. Another one of Nevada’s most well-known places is the Mojave Desert. It is home to Death Valley, the hottest desert in the United States. Founded in 1996, another big part of Las Vegas and a big attraction of tourists was the Neon Museum, a place for all of the neon signs to go when they were taken out of business. Neon lights were first introduced to Las Vegas in 1929, where they would, over the years, take over Las Vegas. Years later, Rob McCoy decided that keeping those lights could make an exciting museum for all ages. If you would want to go yourself, it’s complete with a boneyard park with outside attractions, and there is neon-filled sections indoors that let you see how Las Vegas became the city it is now.
